I am ashamed that I have had no contact since 2002 at Chatham and have missed the reunion. I will keep a watchful eye on the site. By the way I am leaving on my boat (with the family) in Chatham Dockyard funny old world. Regards to you all

I really enjoy the site. So many memories. As we approach 25 years I find myself thinking even more of those far off days. I am keen to go to the 25th anniversary so I'll keep logging on. I was trying to explain to someone the other day what a "buggary board" was, I still don't think they got it!!!

I have written a book "Four Weeks in May" about Coventry in 1982 which will be published in April 2007. I am anxious to get hold of a complete list of the ship's company of that time, which will be included as an annex in the book. If anyone can help I would be very grateful. I have tried most of the officical channels, archives etc and have drawn a blank. Centurion is currently being pursued and I hope that might bring results. Best wishes to all. DHD

Yes I remember John Mew, although for some reason or another I am sure we used to call him George โ€“ him being from around the Tyne area? As well as being a diver he was also a Portsmouth Command Field Gunner, he appeared in the documentary that was made by the BBC โ€˜Too the Limit and Beyondโ€™; if I recall correctly Clive Dunn ex- LS(M) also off the Cov was in that documentary. George was in photo along with the Seamen from 3Q Mess taken aboard the QE2 prior to our arrival in Southampton, the picture later appeared in Navy News, but unfortunately I have not been able to obtain a copy, having tried on many occasions. Strangely enough I was only talking about George Mew yesterday at work โ€“ one of the lads who just joined our unit is Georgeโ€™s ex-brother in law. I am sure he said that George is a Firefighter now. Small world! If in touch with him get him to come to Pompey next May!

There was a John Mew onboard - he was the clubswinger. Last time I saw him was when he came onboard Gloucester when we were in Jebel Ali (I think) during Desert Shield in 1990. He was a diver for some oil company. That was all a few years ago and I've slept since then, so my memory of where we were when he came onboard might not be correct. Mr Blenkharn - I have no photos of your late father, but the last time I saw him was when he came to my house in Portsmouth to do a safety survey. He was working for Southern Electric at the time, and he commented on some photos of Hong Kong I had on display. He asked if I was still in, and we spent more time talking about the war than he spent on the survey. Having moved to the USA 4 years ago I still have photos of the Cov and the lads in various states of inebriation in a box somewhere. One of these days I'll find them and post them.

Interesting site, RIP lads who never returned from South Atlantic. Anyone know John Mew, claims to have been onboard Coventry when she was hit, says that he was ships diver, anyone know him, cheers...

I have a request to any of the guys that served on D118 up to 1982. I am searching for photographs of my dad (Keith Blenkharn) and wondered if anyone would be so kind as to email me copies if that is at all possible. Many thanks in anticipation. All the best to you all!!

Just visited the memorial site down here, said a short prayer for all the lads. The Chatham then took me and stopped over the exact position of the Coventry, really moving. Will post photos soon.
