Steve, thanks for the dit shipmate, you make a valid point and not unexpected to be honest. I fully understand some of our shipmates may wish to get the pins/cuff links earlier than May 2014, and of course not all will or can come along to the next reunion. So, I would be more than happy for those that would like to get an early delivery of the pins etc to contact me directly by email stating requirements and then I can agree on a case by case basis re postage and payment. I hope this helps. Great to learn the new items meet with wide approval. Yours Aye - Chairman

Chris, great looking badges, these have received in excess of 70 likes on both Forever-Jacks & the 2 Coventry facebook pages. The reunion in May is a long time to wait for those eager to get hold of these, plus those that are living in far flung country's or simply cannot get to the reunion for one reason or another are going to be disadvantaged. Could these be made available via the website/email or some other means and posted out? Just a thought. Steve

Shipmates et al FYI - I now have in my possession our own bespoke HMS Coventry Lapel Pins and a number of matching sets of Cuff Links. Both items are based on the design and shape of our crest and stating 1978 - 1982 so most suitable for all that served on D118. The crest has a map of the FI embedded and looks the part. Both items will be available for purchase when I bring them down to the next reunion in May. First come first served basis, but I do have 96 pins and 22 sets of cuff links. I managed to keep costs low and they are very reasonably priced at £2.50 per lapel pin and £6.00 for cuff links. So, £8.50 for a full set. Hope this finds you well, take care. Yours Aye - Chairman

Chris. Bernie's son is called Stephen (Steven?) and has left messages on this board before. It will be several years ago now and I am not sure if it will be possible to sort messages by name in some way. If I get a moment today, I shall see if I can do some digging for you.

Rocky - I've done a search on the database and emailed Chris Stephen's address - DB

I'm posting this for Ginge Crook. At present he is down South and tomorrow he will be laying a wreath in Stanley. On Tuesday he flies over to Pebble Island so he can lay another wreath at the memorial to HMS Coventry.

I sailed with HMS Coventry while aboard the USS Claude V. Ricketts (DDG-5) during STANAVFORLANT exercises in 1981. She was a great ship with a great crew.

The latest on the film "Destroyer" is that the production company are having to explore the finanacing a bit more and filming has not started yet so I cannot see it will hit the screen much before 2015, this has come form a reliable source in the heart of the organisation, they have been out to Malta to do some shooting or explore using one of the massive sea tanks out there used specifiacally for this type of scenario and some shooting was done on the former HMS EDINBURGH prior to lay up for a possible sale of the said b3 t42, which on the matter has now fallen through along with York and the gloucester being in the spares package slot, Its only a matter of time before we see al the remaining t42s in 3 basin on the disposal ground with sister ships MANCHESTER and LIVERPOOL, the only saving grace is that momentum is gathering pace for EDINBURGH to be purchased to go alongside the ROYAL YACHT BRITANNIA at leith...we waith with baited breath...if I find out any more I will post on the site

Shipmates As promised, I have arranged with Forever Jack to produce further HMS Coventry D118 ties as single one off sales. Anyone can now go direct to the Forever Jack website and make an individual order at £11.99 each. Take a look at the tie first: http://www.forever-jack.com/forever-jack/Ties_messdress.html I am also working on our own Lapel Pins which the Association will purchase and which I will then be able to sell during our next reunion in May. Those on Facebook please spread the word re this latest dit on ties...Cheers Take care Yours Aye - Chairman

Shipmates et al As promised and by popular request, I have spoken with Forever Jack, and can now confirm they are looking at setting up the Cov D118 Ass tie for us and will likely allow single/multi orders to be made direct with them from individuals. I will work with them on the same design as current ties and as near to the same colour, but good enough for govt work. Once I have all in order I will let you all know via this forum, you will note I do not use Facebook....but there are plenty of you who do to carry messages across the gateway on my behalf (Steve and Bernie). I will also look at Cov Pin Badges as well for next years reunion, more info as and when. I trust this meets with approval. Yours Aye - Chairman

Hi Chris, are you aware of how things are going with the production of the movie of the ship and when it's likely to be released ?
Peter Dennis wrote on October 7, 2013 at 10:40
Hi all after 32 years really good to look at the website and memories. The photo of the ship floodlit in the misc views must have been birkenhead as it predated SCOT and me

Shipmates et al Just a quick note re Cov Ass Ties: I have been made aware that a few members are asking about getting a Cov Ass tie, I did an order in 2011 and all 50 ties went after over a year of selling them. If we were to order more we would have to order 50 ties as a minimum at a cost to the Ass of nearly £500, so a big outlay and in my opinion at some risk. I do not wish to hold so much stock when I only know of about 5 who are asking. Very sorry to take this position but I have to be responsible with Ass funds. The last order I paid for with my own money and took the risk, but not happy to do so again with so few asking for one. If I get up towards 30 members placing orders I think this would be reasonable and we could use Ass funds to purchase. That is the position. Take care and see you all in 2014 in Portsmouth.
