Although I moved to Hong Kong soon after retiring from the Royal Navy in 2001 as a LtCdr I have never forgotten to take time out at this time of the year to remember you and our friends that remain with the Coventry.
Time may fade some memories but May 1982 and the 25th will stay with me for ever...
I wish you all well and will be thinking of D118 this Sunday.
I just finished reading a book on the Falklands campaign and saw LCDR Michael O'Connell mentioned in the text. I sailed with him when he was XO of HMS GLASGOW and I was XO of USS ROBERT G. BRADLEY during a NAVOCFORMED cruise in 1987. Just wondering if I might be able to get in touch through your group. Thank you so much -- and the book The Battle for the Falklands only increased my respect for the RN. Quite the job. . .
john sharman i got your email but sorry i will not be attending the reunion this year owing to me being away.
have a great time lads i will be with you in mind if not in body

Last dit prior to this year's gathering - just a gentle reminder to let me know by email if you are intending to join us on the Saturday at Whale Island, including any family etc. I need to know numbers for catering and security reasons.
Many of you already have and for your information we are over the 50 in total attending already, so great news.
Finally, don't forget a raffle prize....if possible.
See you soon

Just received the following message from Antony Hemmings, is anyone able to help. Names not ringing any bells for me.
Good Afternoon Stephen,
You will not know me but you may know my father he was a chef on HMS Coventry his name was John Hemmings. i am trying to find out what he was like and stuff as i never saw him after the age of 7 as him and my mum got divorced and he went back up north and we moved back to gosport. unfortunately after the conflict had ended he turned into an alcoholic and in the end he took his own life. I have a half sister up north some where that i am trying to track down and also trying to track down to see where he is buried or where his ashes may be i am scared to ask my mum as this may dragged up some very old scars. If you can help me or the coventry page can help me in this matter then that would be great.
Many Thanks and Take Care

Message from Mark Robinson, admin for the Glasgow 82 crew page on Facebook:
The HMS Glasgow guys are are meeting up for a drink at the Ships Anson in Pompey at 1pm on Saturday 10th May (the nearest Saturday this year to their lucky day) and they would like to extend an invitation to the HMS Coventry veterans to come and join them.
Dear Coventry veterans,
We as a school are looking to create an article about POMEA Geoff Stockwell for inclusion on our school book of memorial for 2016. Would anyone have a picture or information about this shipmate.
sincerely Chris Joy

Shipmates et al,
Hopefully many of you will have been monitoring this website over the winter months, you will therefore be aware that the agenda for our 2014 Reunion/Remembrance gathering has been posted adjacent for many months now.
Further to this then it is now time for me to try and determine numbers of those intending to join us on the Saturday 24th May renion at the GIs Assocation on Whaley, Portsmouth, the same venue as in 2012. We will then hold the Remembrance the following morning on the 25th.
To that end I request you email (please do not post on this guestbook) me if you itend to join us in Portsmouth for the 24/25th May. Please let me know names and numbers (plus car detials if applicable) of who is attending with you also as this information is needed for both security and caterng reasons as in previous years.
Any questions please ask, either by email or feel free to call me. I very much look forward to seeing many of you again in May. Meanwhile take care.

Hi, I am trying to trace photos, memories etc of my cousin who was killed on HMS Coventry.
His name is Adrian Sunderland AKA Sunny I believe.
Many Thanks in advance
Cheryl
For Chris Howe?
Possibly talked to you awaiting Cenotaph March past 2013. Shared hip flask?
I have DVD of possibly HMS Coventry during major RAS whilst onboard RFA Fort Austin, many ships involved, shot over 48hr period.
Hello all.
Plenty of memories here i had simply forgotton about.
Really enjoyed the reunion last year in Coventry but cannot make this year as overseas in May.
Looks like it will be 2015 for me.
Thanks forcall those that work so hard to keep association going.
Like so many other accounts on here Cov certainly was the happiest and best ship I served on.

Hi, I have just read Capt Hart-Dyke's book "Four weeks in May". What a riveting book. I had a brief sojurn(!) on Coventry in 1980. I was the Chief GI in Vernon and piped the ship out when she sailed for the round the world trip. Little did I know that my ERP would be activated and I joined the ship in Instanbul. Lots of good memories, "gentlemen's: PT, good food and the "sod's opera" when Solly, the buffer, mangled the skipper's watch! The ship's company was outstanding, they worked hard and played hard and they gave me, the newcomer, loads of help, especially in the op's room. I still have my "Snoopy" T shirt, given to me by one of the chiefs on the flight, on the night before I flew home from Hong Kong. The Joss tried to keep me onboard for the Shanghai trip, but drafty wouldn't wear it!
I always raise a glass to that fine ship every May 25th.
Dear friends.
Are you aware that if you are a member of the Type 42 Association you are now entitled to stay at the Senior Rates Mess in HMS Nelson for social reasons.
If you contact me, I can sent you the information sheet from the Mess Manager.
See my email address to the left – remember to remove the No Junk Mail, from the end.
Regards
Rocky.
Having just watched an episode of "Above and beyond" I am again left with a lump in y throat at the greatness of our people! Also I noted the name of the Master? of Coventry as David Hart-Dyke. I was at prep school in Malvern Link with someone of that name and must suppose that it is the same man. If so it would be good to make contact with him if possible.
Thinking of my lovely brother, Frank Armes, who would have been 53 today.
Still missed so much after all these years.
Chris & Shipmates,
saw our local news last night and the official handover of 'the letter' from the Argentinian pilot - in the Cathedral ruins in Cov. to our chaplain Martin - looked very moving.
All the best for 2014 to all shipmates
Mick (Jack)Daniels
Shipmates, families and friends - just to say I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Healthy, Wealthy and Happy New Year. See you all in 2014 hopefully at our next Remembrance/Reunion weekend in May.

Dear Sir or Madam: I am going to visit the city of Coventry on December 28th and i will be carrying a letter of the Commodore Jorge Barrionuevo who took part in the attack of May 25th in 1982. I would be very pleased if you could inform me which is the direction in Coventry to handle it?
