All the best
And take care
Brick Wall
I was 14 when my cousin Adrian Sunderland was confirmed killed on HMS coventry, unfortunately this fell on my Birthday so not the best I have had. I always remember the days when we played football on the farm, i remember them as if t=it was yesterday even 25 years down the line.
Still missed Adge
hi guys, does anyone have an email for lockrie mathews, as i have some photos for him and i have lost his e- address, i know that its lockriemathews????'bigpond???, would be great if anyone could help
What a fantastic weekend. Great to see many old shipmates especially Divs, Jonny Sharman, Dave Tyson, Chris Eames(treasure the programme) Potsie, Mac, Steve Hale, Toby. After Sharman's hug i've had 2 weeks off work with a cracked rib. Hope to see as many next year, god willing. From Stan and family.
I served on Coventry from ’79 – ’81 as a killick RP and Helicopter Controller (HC). I was an HC on Intrepid during the Falklands and it was the saddest day of my life when I had the unenviable task of sending the helicopters out to pick you guys out of the water.
My recollections of the ship and her crew was that we were the best at everything we did, be it winning the Rock Race in Gib, the Tug-of-War, gunnery or Sea Dart drills, it didn’t matter, somehow Coventry always performed in an exemplary manner.
Some of the photographs from the old days make me laugh (all that hair!). I still have lots of photos if anyone is interested.
Keep well boys.
We arrived home last night after 2 weeks in UK. It seems everyone had a great time at the reunion, I know we did, seeing people I hadn't seen in 25 years and swapping a few dits. Good to see the Captain and Mrs Captain, neither of whom had changed.
Rocky & the others, you all did a great job organizing everything, apart from the weather on Sunday.
We watched "Sea Of Fire" last Friday - I think my better half was more cut up about it than I was! I thought it was very well made.
As for the abandon ship order, I remember the Captain on the port bridge wing with shredded anti-flash said to me to pipe abandon ship (I was QM), but someone else (can't remember who) said we'd lost all power, so I never made the pipe, and as far as I recall no one else piped it either.
We won't be over in London for the parade, and I doubt it'll feature on the news here, but maybe BBCNews24 will have something?
Smooth sailing, lads, and good to see so many of you in Pompey.
Well i watched the programme to see what happened as i was 11 years old when my brother LT C J Pollard was on HMS Coventry I remember the day watching my mum find out the ship had been sunk so vividly and my Dad had heard it on the radio. I never want to go through that again. I also remember sending goodies out to him with letters. We are coming to London on the 15th for the March on the 17th June as Chris is Marching. So hopefully meet some of his friends.
Wonder if anyone could help me locate Paul McCartney who was a WEM(R) on the Cov. when it sank and afterwards served with me on the Glasgow where we became good mates but lost touch after I left the mob. If anyone has any information on him please get in touch with me as it would be great to see him again. Many Thanks.
If anybody's sent me reunion photos in the last 5 days or so and got an error message back, apologies - seems to be some sort of problem with my email provider. Will post again here when it's fixed.
My father (Raymond Adams) was on HMS Coventry, and for his 50th birthday this year we are trying to locate some of his old friends. If anyone knows the contact details of Sam MacFarland or "Trev", could they please get in touch.
(and please don't tell my dad).
The following is an extract of an email to my brother Stephen Walker. He was on HMS Coventry in 82.
"By pure accident I got to see a documentary called 'Sea of fire', It was based on the book by your Captain and covered the time of just before the Falklands up to you comming home. It had several crew member interveiws as well as the Captain. It was very good and made me so proud of you and all your mates on board, not that I was not proud any way but this was a good reminder."
Thank you to all who served.
could the guys at gosport at the reception after the march get in touch with me referance sat 16th june i have good news. regards spike
What a wonderful time we had in Portsmouth . A lot of memories came to the surface , some were hard to face but most were of a happy ships company . We all seemed to slip back in time , comfortably at ease with each other . 'Stan' , keep that hair just right -- your looking good ! Mickie , I know it was hard but you did well . keep in touch .As for the two law keepers in our midst , it was really good to see you ( you too Tim ) .Too much to say ,too little space --- Calm seas , boys , all the way
Wow,what a memorable week that was - only just got back from the New Forest.
Rocky and organisers - from all the family - thanks for a brill weekend - it was great to see so many old shipmates and the service was just perfect in every way - as was the weather.Great work on the collection Sid - just need to sort the standard now!Well done guys on Sea of Fire - a fitting tribute to our ship and lost comrades.
Thanks also to Chris Howe and the skipper for solving the puzzle of the feathers in the Ops Room - it had been bugging me for 25 years.
Looking forward to seeing you all on the 17th.
regards,
To all ex-Covs
Jack (Daniels) & Family
After watching the BBC2 programme the other night I thought I'd surf and what I found was this brilliant site.
I was out in Tokyo with my parents at the British Embassy when the Coventry came, we had loads of receptions and met alot of the guys on board.
The only name which rings a bell from all the messages is Brian Wall, although I did meet the pop group on board.
My thoughts and best wishes go out to everyone connected to HMS Coventry.

I work with a guy called David Nuttall who was on Coventry at the time of the attack, he's mentioned the conflict in passing from time to time so I never really had an idea of what you guys went through, especially at such young age's, until I watched Sea of Fire.
You brave brave men. Lion's all. You did us and each other proud.
I hope it's ok to say that, but I'm compelled to.
I have just watched Sea of Fire and my dad was on it, I thought it was good
Further to my previous message, I was a Writer on board the Cov from October, 1978 to May, 1981.
Watched the programme last night, a fitting tribute to the bravery of all those on board. Thanks go to all those who managed to put accross what they experienced and especially Elli for making sure that it was portrayed in the correct manner, no airs and gracies.
Everyone should feel extremely proud.
Look forward to seeing you all again today/tomorrow in Gosport and on the 17th in London.
