Unfortunately, the "accommodation" section at my workplace are causing "problems" (for no apparent reason) for taking people into my workplace (even though it wasn't a problem until Thursday !!!). So I will have to withdraw my offer.
No - I'm not "Tas Ape" Thomas - I was a Writer onboard the Coventry from October, 1978 to May, 1981
Taff,
I will certainly take you up on the offer if it is still open. And I know one or two others who will!!!
Is that LS Tas ape Thomas?
For those of you who remember me, I now work for "The Crown Estate" and my office (and our cafe/bar) overlooks Horseguards Parade. Try "The Two Chairmen", which is about 5 seconds walk from Horseguards (if anyone had bothered to contact me they could have come and sat in our bar and had as many wets as they wanted to)
Thanks Paul,
The "Sherlock Holmes" seems like a good R/V point to me,How about you guys?

For all attending Horse Guards on Sunday, I wish you all the best.
You are once again walking into the history books, paying all respects and letting our country and the outside world know what it's like to stand-to and act when neccessary.....
In the words of the late great William Stuart Adamson....
'Our name will never die, this time will be forever'........
Keep on keeping on ex'Cov's..

Some of the Broadsword guys are meeting for a few wets on Saturday evening at The Wellington, which is at 81 - 83 Waterloo Road near Waterloo Station. I'd guess any Covs would be made welcome!
Paul,
cheers for that.
Ginge, me and family are in the same Hotel Saturday night -Holiday Express in Southwark.I have noticed on other ships websites - they are meeting up somewhere prior to going to the forming up point - hopefully we can all be together as a unit?
Give us a call if you are planning to meet up anywhere. 07971 893206

Mick (Jack)
Guys.
There are a few pubs around Whitehall but expect them to be busy, with so many heading to the forming up points plus the normal London tourists. There are a few pubs around Whitehall and just off the Trafalgar Square end of Northumberland Avenue is the โSherlock Holmesโ
For those happy to carryout a 5 to 10 min yomp there are plenty of pubs and bars (and big eats) north of Trafalgar Square, many located around the Leicester Square and Covent Garden areas โ all very much within walking distance; but for those who like to take life a little easier there is always the tube to get around. Just watch your wallets!!!
See you Sunday.
Paul
Jack Russell, at the reunion you asked me if I had a better understanding of the little hang-ups tou all have . If I didn't then I do now. I've just finished reading 'Four Weeks in May', H.D manages to express his feelings about comming home in a truly insightful way. All of you probably felt the same way and it has taken a long time to come to terms with those feelings. Having seen you all at the reunion, I know that while you live and breath you will always be a family to each other-- no matter where you are. Love to you all.
Jack. Pub by Horseguards.
Off the parade grnd.
Left Turn. Lefrightlefrightlefright About 200 yards.
Left turn again.
A Pub there called the Westminster Arms. Nice old typical London pub.
To all who are mustering in London - very best wishes to you.
Thinking of Frank Armes, a good mate of mine from my school days, you went in the Navy and i went in the Army. rest in peace frank your mate from Norfolk Alan Rogers, ex Guardsman.
I am now back at work but I will be thinking of you all on Sunday. Please raise a glass for me in memory of our shipmates in the recommended meeting point.
All the Best
Stevie
Guys, there a few reasonable ones around, for those that never went to commcen whitehall for a "rest", if you go through Admiralty Arch, cross Whitehall and hang an immediate turn to starboard, just on ones' port side there is an ale house aptly named the Silver Cross, not a bad watering hole but it may fill up pretty quickly!!!
Maybe see some of you there.
Calm seas, Sam
For those who are attending the big bash on Sunday in London - are there any plans to meet up prior to going up to the forming up point??
Our London Guys - are there any reputable establishments close to Horse Guards Avenue where we could meet to lubricate out tonsils??
I notice they have taken everything into account in the planning for us veterans with weak bladders - 'There will be portaloos in the forming up point'!
regards to all ex-Cov's,
looking forward to seeing and marching with you once again-

For Captain HD. Thankyou Sir,it must have been very difficult for you in the making of "Sea of Fire" and indeed for the rest of the guys. But finally the recognition For the "Coventry" and her crew and a very fitting tribute to all who served, and those sadly no longer with us God rest their souls
Just finished watching โSea of Fireโ here in the USA, the men who portrayed us were a pretty ugly bunch, we were much better looking โ EVEN NOW! Eli, good to see you looking all gunnery still, and Chris had not changed one bit either. Had to convert the PAL DVD to MPG4, now have it on my โApple TVโ. Iโm off to LA in July and will hopefully meet up with Malcolm โJockโ Rutherford for a small run ashore. BUSTA, email me โ need your phone number just to say โHiโ.
Yours Aye
Malcolm โYorkieโ Burton
My uncle Russell 'Eli' Ellis was on TV a couple of weeks back in the Coventry film Sea of Fire. I was extremely moved by the story once again and incredibly proud of what he did. I was eight at the time of the Falklands but still have vivid images in my head from the news reports. I still remember how anxious we all were and how brave we all thought you were. All of you. Everyone has their heroes and my Uncle Russell is definitely one of mine. One thing I can't work out though, is why he has always worn such a tight pair of shorts - even if it's minus ten in the middle of winter. Is it something to do with the ladies? If anyone knows, let me know. Just going to read Four Weeks in May - maybe there'll be some clues in there...
Im not sure what happend to the message I put on about the association we are forming, just to say it is progressing and I have asked Jack Russell to be deputy chairman and Rocky Hudson to be the treasure. I will publish more news very soon. All of you who know where our shipmates are speared the word.
Doc
In 1982 I was in my final year of school and thinking about what to do with myself, then came the Falklands Conflict. This was the first time I recall a war being replayed on television, I was engrossed and decided that I wanted to join the RN.
I watched 'Sea of Fire' with great interest as I served with a member of the Coventry's crew onboard HMS York. This was a man amongst men, I didn't know his full story, I didn't need to know and it is true that real heroes are some of the most modest people you will meet.
I am currently a serving officer in Lothian & Borders Police and things that I learnt during my Naval career are the things that have kept me right in life and as a Police Officer. UNITY, LOYALTY AND COMRADESHIP!
It is because of the men of the Coventry and the remainder of the Task Force that I joined the Senior Service and I hope that during my working life I have given something back and made a differenece.
Much Respect. BRAVO ZULU!
Ian Turnbull, great loss.
