To Nick Page and the Broadsword Association on behalf of HMS Coventry survivors and families.
Nick - many thanks indeed for alerting myself and my shipmates to the very thoughtful Act of Remembrance you intend to carry out in Plymouth by way of laying a wreath for Coventry and those we left on patrol down south. This is indeed very much appreciated by us all.
As you know we will be holding our own Service of Remembrance in Portsmouth over that same weekend where we shall also raise a glass to our shipmates from the Broadsword who have always supported us in the past 30 years since 'that day'.
Finally, I sincerely hope that your own weekend is a success and that you can once again share 'gen dits' over a few wets.
Yrs Aye - Chris Howe MBE, Chairman
HMS Coventry D118 Associaton
As you may or may not be aware, we, the Broadsword Association are holding our AGM/Reunion in Guzz over the weekend 25th May 2012.
As an Association we would like you to know that the Coventry will be remembered on 25th May and during the weekend.
On Sunday at 1100 we are holding a wreath laying ceremony at the Falklands Memorial on Plymouth Hoe, to remember all those who never returned from the South Atlantic. Coventry will be at the forefront of our minds.
Regards,
Nick Page,
Secretary,
Broadsword Association.
Hi everyone. Together with 7 other Royal Naval Reservists from HMS Calliope, I am off on Thursday 17th May to Ypres in Belgium to complete a 100km trek around the WW1 battlefields of Flanders. Please sponsor us!! We are walking for the Royal Navy and Roya...l Marines Charity. This charity supports the whole Naval family who are in need, suffering hardship or in distress. The charity supports both serving and ex personnel as well as supporting those who are on operations to ensure the welfare of personnel. It also provides support to the families who suffer the bereavement of a serving member.
Regards
Jim

So sad to hear of the passing of another Mess and Shipmate, Taff Gould. My thoughts and best wishes go out to his family. RIP Taff
Remembering our great friend Philip White in whose honour his friends will meet for a memorial service and dinner that night on Saturday 26th May in Donegal. He may be gone but he has never been forgotten,it was a pleasure knowing him for a very short time in our lives.
Hello Chris/Eli,
please stick me down for three on Friday night. I'm hoping to bring my 5 year old daughter along as well as the wife if that's all ok. No problems if it's a kids free night but Ill have to get the Mrs to babysit that being the case.Looking forwards to seeing everyone for the first time since stepping off QE2.
Shipmates - have read our Facebook page today to hear of the sad passing and burial of Mark Gould - stoker. Don't know full details only passed on after a short illness aged 49. Remember Taff as many runs ashore but kept under radar in subsequent years. My thoughts go to his family and friends. Another one of our own to remember this year along with those still on watch. RIP.
TYPE 42 IMAGES - A young model maker in the NE is making a 10ft model of a type 42 (exeter I think) and he is desperately seeking images of the hanger and inside the hanger, if you can help give me a shout and I will send the images onto him. TA.
Shipmates - Update on 25th May
FYI - We now have all the indicative costs in for our reunion at the GIs Ass on Friday 25th May. In order for us to cover Buffet, Bar Staff, Ins etc I can now confirm that we need to collect the very modest sum of ยฃ5 per person on entry into the Association.
To that end if you could have the correct money ready for you and your party at the door on the Friday evening it would be much appreciated. It is also hoped that the raffle will raise enough funds to cover off other costs such as Wreath and Bugler.
We are now up at 94 attending so great news.
See you all soon
Yrs Aye - Chairman
hi everyone i feel like abit of an outsider, but i served on the Coventry for about a year when you came back from the far east and we did a work up at Portland, i was an AB Gunner and remember people like Steve Ingleby and Buster brown, i then left to transfer to the Marines 2 weeks before you sailed for the Falklands, you are in my heart and thoughts always, god bless you all, good luck for 26/27 may, regards Simon (Stan) Matthews
Chris/Eli,
Can you please put me down for two tickets on the evening of Friday 25th May at Whale Island.
Shipmates
I note the various notes of concern posted recently:
So, just a quick dit to put your minds at ease re the tickets for Sunday 27th May in Gosport.
The tickets are in hand with the local council and FVF, if you have requested by email then rest assured you will be okay. I have also agreed with Derek Kimber to bring plenty of spare tickets as back up on our evening of Friday 25th May, Derek is on the case and will not let us down, trust me I am the Chairman
Meanwhile, I can say that we have 92 signed up to attend on Friday 25th May, including our Skippper, this is 53 shipmates and the rest family in support, this is most pleasing and I look forward to meeting with many of you again.
For those that still have not registered with myself or Eli then please do so as we do need to finalise some small catering items for the evening reunion at Whale Island.
Also, a small rafffle prize donation would be great.....
See you all at 1715 at the muster point, all details adjacent.
Yrs Aye - Chairman

The funeral of Bob CURD will take place on Friday 18th May at 1.30 at Downs Crematorium, Bear Road, Brighton, BN2 3PL. No flowers , donations to either Royal British Legion or British Heart Foundation.
Was hoping to find a Steve Morgan who served on Coventry in 82. He joined the RN in 1980 (Benbow 30). Would be great to hear from you Steve .
Thinking of my brothers in arms today. Will never forget the 4th May 1982โฆ on watch in Coventryโs Ops Room 30 years today. My thoughts are with all Shinny Shefs and those still on patrol. I raise my glass to HMS Sheffield and all her Ships Company.
Very sad to hear of Bob Curd's passing. To reiterate Chuck & Toby's words, A True Gentleman along with his lovely wife Jackie, who were 'Regulars' to our reunions on many occasions. At Coventry last year, Nina & I, along with Craig and Gill Phillips and many others thoroughly enjoyed their company at the Warwick Club. Our thoughts go out to Jackie and Family, you'll always be remembered Bob.
I only heard today of the sad loss of Bob Curd a true Officer and a Gentleman. He along with his lovely wife Jackie, attended and supported Coventry reunions for many a year. I have very fond memories of Bob who treated all us Stokers as his own, never a bad word said.
Will miss you mate.
Rest in peace and love to you Jackie.
