Funding for Project Stanley Refuge in the Falkland Islands with ajoint applications by SAMA (82) and the FVF has been secured. RBL £90K / Challenge Fund £90K with more to come. Smokey has placed the order. The house should be opened and dedicated on Liberation Day 14th June 2008. There is now a substantial amount in SAMA's Ring Fenced Pilgrimage Fund, so if you have not returned since 1982 you can apply.

Hi Barny
Good to know you have learnt new skills, gardening gets my vote mate. I am running an EW school in SLeaford, Lincs. THis is near the home of the UK Defence EW Centre, so still keep up to speed etc. Sadly cannot make any of the reunions next year, overseas working on both events. Attended EW reunion in Collingwood this year and had a good time but also included the commeroration to our 2 lost shipmates, Bernie and Adrian, so sad as well. Take care mate and perhaps I can get to future reunions,
God willing.
Trev: Does an Old Golly qualify for the comms dinner?
Sam,
Can you contact me on the following email address please, I am looking at arranging a Coventry Comms Dinner onboard HMS Argyll next year when we are in Pompey (looking around weekend of May 16th, cant do it the following weekend as we are in Guzz), can you give us a shout, need to round up the old gang. Capt HD is aware of this and should be attending.
I can remember being transported by chinook helicopter from RFA fort Austin to RFA Stromness, the weather was not good and I seem to remember a rough ride
Never made to Broadsword, straight from a liferaft into a sea king and then onto Fort Austin, then by wessex onto Stromness and boat to QEII.
P.S. does anybody have a contact number for Rob Barker, Craig Phillips gave me a number in London but I messed up and it does'nt work.
Hi shipmates sorry for not getting on here sooner,,never been at good at this computer stuff. It was great to see a lot of old faces at reunion, very touching and still not quite sure on how to handle my feelings.BUT VERY GLAD TO HAVE ATTENDED.I do hope to see a few more of the old faces in the future.
Andy, some of us were heloed by Wessex to Stromness, I was on the first flight.
Hi Alison, yes i have received your email and have replied so hopefully you have now received that.
Many thanks for responding and your kind comments
Lydia
Hi Tony, I think we went past the rear end of Fearless, her dock was giving off the red night glow.
Certainly had an air raid warning red on the Stromness but noone had been told where to go, so most just ran around in circles.
Cheers, Sam
Lydia- did you receive my e-mail?
Many thanks to all those who have contacted me recently with regard to my brother Ian P Hall. It has been very comforting.
Cheers Sam,
Apart from Ft Austin to Stromness pretty much ties up with my memories.
Did we go through the Intrepid or Fearless as well.
The airaid warning as I remember was Super Etendard detected and the sat us in a passageway in the middle with towels over our heads as flash gear.
Cheers
Tiny
Hello All,
Yeh think you are right about the transfers Sam, but seem to remember during the transfer from Ft Austin to Stromness there was an air raid warning.
All the bestAll the best
Tony, Broadsword to Fort Austin by landing craft (spooky), Fort Austin to Stromness by boat in the middle of a storm(!! v dodgy!), then calm transfer to QEII.
Calm seas my friend, Sam
Can anyone help?
Need to know how we transferred from Broadsword to Fort Austin to Stromness to QEII!
Have my memories but need to know there correct!
Might help others in the future if Damien could make this timeline available.
Think Damiens site should have the Association site as well obviously locked down.
To start up anew is a waste of money as web hosting and bandwith costs a fortune, all most of us see is the free offerings not the deicated sites like Damien is providing.
Will never forget any off you, retired, still serving or forever on patrol!
Has anyone heard from Barry Wakefield or know his address, also Knocker White greenie tiff.
Jock Mitchell, good to hear from you - if you were a LS(R) the one with the full set - i was your bosuns mate over xmas 79- you invited me home on xmas day for dinner with your family - nice touch,i haven't forgotten it.The years on the whisky must be having an effect though - The Kiev in fact was the 'Minsk'-remember it well on passage to Shanghai - wonder which baltic scrapyard she is in now!
Not long after that incident i Remember doing SOC's on Sonar one morning and we picked up a contact - a submarine shadowing us - we held it for a long time - Paddy Kennedy was in ping land..another rusky friend i think?A cracking Sonar team.
regards,
Mick(Jack)Daniels
