Things have gotten so bad in the RN these days that it's down to the RFA to send a ship down south. Here's a link to a report from today's Sunday Telegraph http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/3569163/Falkland-Islands-to-be-left-without-warship.html

Hi again,i posted a message on your message board some time ago trying to locate chris pollard? I would also like to tell you a bit of why i am trying to make contact with him. I worked with chris before he joined the RN, he served onboard Coventry i on Intrepid. It would be nice to fing out how he is doing. There is yet another reason why i am making contact with the Coventry lads, we have a connection that is bizarre! I am in no way trying to upset anybody or stir up ill feelings, on the 27th May 1982 i was responsible for hitting an A4 Skyhawk and the pilot survived and after 25 years of thinking i had killed him i saw him on the Tv last year. The very same pilot sank the coventry, so as you can see my link to the coventry is somewhat strange. It would be great if anyone could get back to me with any info on chris. Cheers Wilky

Just a quick ditty from sunny Guzz. Thought maybe some of you would like to read about an other old warhorse from 1982 HMS Plymouth and how Plymouth City Council and the Naval base won't give her a home. Quite sad really.

An old Navy shipmate of mine (ex-LS(EW)) is in the Birmingham RNR unit and will be doing sea time onboard HMS Daring, the Navy's first Type 45. The second of the class, Dauntless, is currently fitting out and will be affiliated to the city of Coventry. He is going to keep me informed of that friendship, so if any old Covs also want to be kept up to date please let me know.

Friends, and Shipmates. Just to keep this one more or less at the top... 2009 Reunion. We are going to have the 2009 reunion on the weekend 29th – 31st May, the weekend after the May bank holiday. It will follow the format of previous years, as this has proved to be the most popular - An informal weekend of gatherings in which we remember our shipmates still on patrol and meet old friends. There will be meetings in the Home Club (now called the Maritime Club) Friday 29th from 19:30 onwards, Saturday 30th from a 12:00 DTS to an evening gathering beginning at 19:30-20:00. On Sunday 31st we will gather at 11:00 by The Falklands Memorial in Old Portsmouth for a short, non religious remembrance service. There will be a wreath laid, a role of honour and two-minute silence. Afterwards, we head off to the Still and West for a coffee or a pint before departing for home. Come to as many or as few meetings as suits you. Family and friends are welcome. There is no dress code. If you have never been to one before, it would be great if you can come along. For more information, please get in touch. Click on the envelope icon to the left of this message, but remember to remove the “No Junk Mail” that will be automatically attached to the end of my Email address. Regards Rocky Hudson. (Ex AB.R)

We were cruising in the western Caribbean last week and happened to be in Georgetown, Grand Cayman, on Nov 11th. It just so happened we were walking past the war memorial when the wreath-laying was taking place, so I paused and bowed my head in respect. The brave are never forgotten.

Mark and I were good friends with 'Nobby' Hall who was killed on board 'Cov', Mark being at school with Ian. Mark wants to build a 'You Tube' tribute to the 'Cov' and crew so would appreciate as many photos as possible of those tragic events in May '82 and of course happier times. I'm no good when it comes to this sort of thing so if you have any photos can you please email Mark to gaisford8@hotmail.co.uk explaining who's who, all contributions will be gratefully received. Cheers Neil

Spent another memorable day at the Cenothap yesterday to pay respects to all those who were lost in 82 but mainly to those shipmates on the Cov. Shared a few glasses with Simon Rouse, Richie Richardson, Matt Northeast, Tony Reece, Colin Kemp and many other crewmembers from other grey messangers of death. See you all again soon, calm seas.

Great to see something like this on the Web. I'm looking around before going to Church (Sunday 9th November) to remember two mates: Sunny Sunderland and Stuey Stuart (Argonaut). Went through training with both and on to Dryad with Sunny - I served on the Coventry in 1981/82 for a short time remember lots of people but names have slipped away - The two I remember were Knocker White and Jimmy Greaves, who scared the life out of me as a Junior Seaman when I joined the ship - Once onboard I was soon on a run ashore with both in Sunderland. GREAT Memories. Sunny joined after I had left. Then joined Invincible and I had the unfortunate job of Helo' Controllers Assistant on that Day. I listened to a commentary of the after the attck (given by a helicopter pilot overhead). I have no shame in admitting that I sat there in tears whilst continuing to do my job. My thoughts were with Sunny and the rest orf the crew. I hope this doesn't bring up memories that people would rather forget. Best Wishes to you all !

Andy. I remember all those places you mention that we visited on the Coventry. Willemshaven - we did the 100 mile road race. Keil -Sid sat on a glass table and wound up in hospital. Lisbon - I had my drink spiked, got rolled and lost my watch - I was brought back to the ship by an American shore patrol from USS Claud V Rickets. Gibraltar - I did the rock race for the first time (in 28 mins 28 seconds). And Sunderland I remember very well indeed....I met the lady wife!!!
