All. (The urge to say โ€œSitrepโ€ at this point is almost overwhelming!) This is where we stand with the proposed association. Before the last reunion the idea of a โ€œFormalโ€ association was rejected. It was made quite clear that many baulked at all the pomp and ceremony such organisations attract. It was however decided at the Saturday meeting to form a looser and far more informal form of association. The idea being that those who wish to march as a seperate and identifiable group in November at the Cenotaph, will be able to do so. The name โ€œHMS Coventry D118 Associationโ€ was chosen โ€“ and the decision made that anyone who ever served on our ship would be accepted as full members with friends and family as associate members. A committee was elected: Doc Savage โ€“ Chair. Jack Russell โ€“ Vice Chair Steve Hunt โ€“ Secretary Rocky Hudson โ€“ Treasurer Toby Owen โ€“ Committee member Simon Rouse โ€“ Committee member Tony Reece โ€“ Committee member We have applied to the Abbey for a business account in our name - and as soon as the paperwork is delivered we will be up and running and ready to accept applications. There is an application form prepared which can be requested very shortly. Details to follow. Membership cards will be printed and distributed as you join. Membership will be for LIFE, and cost just ยฃ10.00. If you expressly do not want to join, no problem, you are NOT excluded from anything ie reunions or rememberance gatherings on Sunday - that is for all and any who wish to attend. Any questions, feel free to ask. Yours Aye. Rocky

Hi D118ers Well Id like to thank all those guys who have gave me encouragement this year.Boys its taken me alot to get where I am today, but Iam in joy enstead of sadness, and this is because the doctors have found the right medication thank god.But I really hopes it lasts, sometimes the medication can decide it does not want to work any more, thats when it gets tuff, has then you have to start all over again, but at this moment I have light in my life and that is MAGIC. Anyway changing the subject, because CPTSD does become boring if you do not suffer? But this is me on here with my own email address,Ive only been using the computor for two weeks, and this is something I thought would never happen,so Iam over the moon boys. Ive just ordered a Coventry polo shirt, but if any one knows where I can get a Coventry tie, from I would like to know. and about any of our ship badges. I see there is afew men on this site, but does any one know where every body is??? I was good friends with AB Andy Nothers,Iused to in contact with him but like all things in life you loose that contact, so if any body knows his where abouts, Id love to no. I cant believe Iam saying this but when on the COV,I was great friend with Stevie Stevenson, real name John.he was a LS(R). When I first became ill I upset him badly, this was due to what was going on in my head?? I believe he will never forgive me, and this makes me very SAD.But it was my fault so I have to live with this, lifes a bitch sometimes. So boys, things in my life is not to bad at present. Iam painting at the moment,I do Abstract art,and enjoying it greatly.Ive sold afew but this was through Combat Stress.Who are a wonderful bunch of people. Iam going to try and get some of my crazy creations seen,so I looking for places to show them?? Anyway Ive gone on enough and most probably bored you stupid sorry. All I really wanted to say is Iam proud to be part of you all.A nd communication is so very important so try it boys, All that is left to say is heres to you all A GREAT BIG THANKYOY. God bless.

Nick Barry Wakefield was the leading hand on the Internal Comms section when I joined Cov at the end of 81. Tony Reece relieved him onboard.

Ginge & Rocky, good luck to your lads in their R.N.careers - it must make you feel young again. You will be able to compare notes (not in front of the missus) - on the more refined establishments that were frequented (if they are still open!) regards, Mick (Jack)

Dear Gentlemen, Thank you very much for your interest and generous words regarding my short mention of your ship in my paper. I thank you for your understanding, but add that if you do read my paper, I suggest you find a comfortable chair as I do tend to go into great detail, such that I'm oft called my by mountaineering colleagues a bit of a "Sir Humphrey Appleby". heh heh.... My paper is to be archived with the British library as a contribution to British history soon, and I'm currently writing a new paper on a different aspect of the Mallory & Irvine Everest saga. I may mention HMS Coventry again in this new one..... we'll see. Once again, thank you for your generosity and understanding, it means a lot to me to have this interest and support for my work as really its chaps like you that allow chaps like me to live in peace, freedom and safety- which is one lesson I've learn't. Good health to you all. Philip in Hobart

Gents I had a long letter from Taff Thomas (LS Sonar) today. I'm not going to write any of the contents here as it's a public website, but suffice to say he seems to be on the road to recovery. He's only just starting to use a computer but he says he loves writing letters, so if any of you would like his snail mail or email address please email me. Ginge, it must make you proud. Best wishes to him, and let's hope he never sees combat. Happy New Year to you all
