I've responded to Tina Whitehouse's post about Yorkie Burton via email and had a reply. I told her that he was the life and soul of many parties in the mess and, more importantly, that he was the guy who helped me out of the water and into the liferaft the day we were hit, and took charge of everything in that raft including the winching into helos that were sent to help us
Just a quick one fellas, i'm looking for any of the jolly jacks who took part in the surprise surprise show that was filmed on the flight deck of the lusty back in the mid-late 80's, kate bush managed to track down a copy of the show from Hazel's daughter and i have got it transferred onto dvd, recognise some faces, jock hamilton, harry with the big quiff, if you know anyone who was on it or you were on it send me an address and i'll let you have a copy,
Hi everyone,i am Malc "YORKIE" Burtons first wife. I have only just discovered this site. I too will never forget how you all faught and my heart is with you all. I always remember waiting with our little boy Ryan for the QE2 to dock. When i saw Malc coming i jumped over the barrier and flung into his arms. It was mixed with joy and sadness for the lads that would not be coming home. I still have an autograph book which many of you signed refering to us as tea pot and tea pot lid. Malc wrote a wonderful verse on the front page. We had two boys Ryan who is 30 on 1stnov and Damien who will be 27 in jan. They had not seen their dad for almost 25 years, i always wish things could have been different. Ryan was intending to visit his dad as he had many questions but Malc was too ill and Ryan never did get to see him. I have coppied all Malcs entries for the lads. I knew the falklands had affected him but he never spoke about it really and its reading his entries that crikey ive been in floods of tears. My heart goes out to you all. I'll never forget and i hold you all in my heart i am so proud of you all. Tina,Ryan and Damien

Hi shipmates, many thanks for voting me on as a committee member and congratulations to Chris on his election as Chairman, i would just like to put more into the association, as i have been very lax in the last 20 years or so.
i would like to put something past you all, these main reunions i.e. every 5 years or in Coventry, what is the thought of having them on the bank hol weekend i just thought that perhaps the attendance would be higher and people more likely to travel with the extra day.
Please pass on your thoughts via the guestbook.
Members may wish to know that a new book, FOR A SHILLING A DAY (Bank House Books), carries a vivid account of the sinking of HMS Coventry as witnessed by a ship's officer, Chris Pollard. Daily Mail review is here.
Congratulations to Chris and well done to Doc for all his work in past, see you all in Coventry next year Barny Campbell
Hi Shipmates, just a quick dit to follow on from what Steve has just announced. It gives me great pride and pleasure indeed to have been voted in as the new Chair for our association and I very much look forward to the next 2 years where my main aim will be to swell our numbers not only for the Association membership but also simply to get our old shipmates joining us at the annual reunions, especially for the 30 years in 2012. On that score, next years 2011 reunion will take place in Coventry 20-22 May, full details will appear here in due course; however, for now it would be useful to get an appreciation of who would be looking to attend in Coventry, so if you could let Steve Hunt our sec know if you are looking to come it would be much appreciated, not a firm committment as yet, just an idea for numbers.
Finally, I would like to personally thank our immediate past Chairman, Doc Savage for all his efforts and valuable contribution for getting the Cov Association up and running, naturally we will still be seeing Doc at future reunions, so BZ Doc.
More from me soon then, but if anyone wishes to contact me please feel free to do so.
Calm seas shipmates

Chris Howe MBE
Chairman HMS Coventry Ass.
The election of the new HMS Coventry committee has been completed and Chris Howe has been voted as our new Chairman and Jerry Hardy as a new committee member, well done to both of you.Just a quick note on the membership of the HMS COVENTRY Association, we would like to encourage more ex Covs to join the association and express ideas that the committee can discuss and debate. The association is not a paticularly formal body ,mainly a platform of a sense of belonging and comradeship. So again consider joining the HMS Coventry Association.Anyone requiring the result of the election can contact me and I will contact them personally.
Yes Andy I didn`t fall in love with any lasses in Sunderland, spoke a funny language and the football team, what was it called again,Ryhope Colliery Welfare they weren`t up to much.I thought the place was very similar to Bombay and Karachi. Hope all well with you Andy,Take care
Good evening to one and all, just a very quick note. Someonbe rang my home last weekend but unfortunaley I didnt get the phone number so sorry for not ringing who ever it was. To answer the question next years reunion will be the weekend of the 20th - 22nd in Coventry. Once we have sorted out the new committee I will either start work on the prep for the reunion or hand it over to who ever is voted in as chairman.
Best of luck to all
Doc.

Sir, I have sent info about Nutty Hazell to the email I have for you. If you have changed your email please let me know and I will re-send it.
I have been contacted by someone who wishes to get in touch with P.W. Hazell who was with us in Coventry in 1982. I would be grateful for any information or contact details. I send my very best wishes to all ex-Coventrys. My admiration for you remains as strong as ever.
I didn't fall in love with any lasses in Sunderland just the football club!
How about you Selwyn?
All the candidates that have volunteered to join the HMS Coventry Association have now contacted me and I have sent out voting slips to all of the members of the Association.Could I possibly request a swift return of the slips in order to complete the election of the committee. Thank You, Selwyn
Folks.
Slight delay in getting the voting forms out to the association members as we had a computer break down last week. All up and running now, so they will be out to you soon.
Dabs. I liked your dit about Sunderland. I too fell for a delightful young lady that I met there. I had no other girlfriend at the time so I went on to court and marry mine. Still married, we just celebrated our silver wedding anniversary the other day!!
I have just read an excerpt from the skippers book whereby he said, 'I was 2 decks down and could see no way out. The smoke was suffocating and the doors were blocked by fire.'
I was calm and prepared to die.
Wow! I was 1 deck down in the Ops Room and crapping clump blocks. I couldn't see bugger all but smoke and there was no way on earth that I was going to die.
Fortunately, I'm still here to say that my 'unreadiness to die' bore fruit. Thank goodness.
RN Captains must all go to the same FOST 'Death Wish' training school.
Just read a dit about the visit to Sunderland during our time with STANAVFORLANT. I remember it quite well, because I met a beautiful lass who I would have married, if I hadn't been married at the time. It was the only time during a 34½ year career that I would have went out of watch. Trouble was, I was too honest. Problem was, my missus wasn't. Life sucks and then you die.
Shit still trails after me to this day.
