There are some of us who, as regularly as possible attend the reunions and get a lot out of the informal get togethers where we can meet up and chat with each other without restrictions or too much reference to the war. Especially as the association embraces every crew member who served. As one who does,nt do marching and smart casuals but would like to book for the reunion and the chance to meet up in the city that bears our ships name. Will the option of the usual informalities still be open to us? And would we still be able to get in to the Royal Warwick club?

Chaps, intercepted this message w.r.t Foxy Fowler. I spoke to Jamie Miller Yesterday who will undertake the reading. Elizabeth Cross Presentation: PO (Sonar) Michael George FOWLER, D94740D died on HMS COVThe Naval Regional Commander has an Elizabeth Cross award to attend for PO Fowler in Winchester on 17 Mar. I have a request, a long shot I agree, can you check with your staff/contacts/messes if there was anyone who may have known PO Fowler or served on COVENTRY who might like to attend to meet the family and assist the NRC on this very special day. I will also contact the COVENTRY Assoc.Sir, We are intending to send a car load of uniformed personnel in support of this. Unfortunately none of them served with PO Fowler however to we have a memorial to him within the Underwater training section here at Collingwood and would be delighted to invite his family down to view it if they so wished. I’d be grateful for any details you may have for the arrangements on 17th March so that I can brief my troops on the what/where/when. Rgds Phil Ponsford Lt Cdr RN

Hi Shipmates Just a quick heads up to the fact that I have now finalised (all but the finest of details) the itinerary for our reunion in May. I am very pleased to confirm that we will have the standard for our march to Church on the Sunday morning and I will have some new Cov D118 ties for sale over the weekend, hopefully we can all wear them proudly as we march through the streets of Coventry. Also, take note that we will have our 'colours' pesented to us by the local Mayor and Jaguar Landrover, both whom have donated funds to us which has enabled the purchase of our own standard. BZ on that score. Please take a minute to refresh yourselves on the revised itinerary under the reunion tab adjacent, if anyone has any questions at all please contact me as per usual. Finally, your committee and I are very much looking forward to seeing many of you again in Coventry and at the moment we are over 30 strong and counting. We believe this years format and itinerary will meet with your approval, so please support us by coming along if not just out of morbid curiosity! The value added bonus this year is that you get to be 'shouted at once again' by Eli Ellis the Gooner! Free of charge. Stay safe - Yrs Aye Chris Howe MBE - Chairman

Hi COVENTRY's, My wife and I have just returned from the dedication of the HMS GLAMORGAN Memorial at Hookers Point. Whilst in the Falklands we visited Pebble Island and paid our respects at your Memorial, polishing up the brightwork. Our thoughts were with you.

Shipmates - FYI I have just placed an updated agenda on the reunion tab adjacent. Although only minor changes, it does reflect a few more detailed timings and points out significant highlights of the weekend, specifically an informal type Chairman's address during the Sat DTS at 1300 but also the possibility of a handover ceremony of our very own Coventry Standard on the Sat evening gathering. This is significant and great news. A further post from me with updates on obtaining our own Standard will appear here soon. Finally, the SAMA request for volunteers is just for the Sunday 27th March service, sorry for any confusion. Although attending the whole AGM is fine. (Thanks Sam - be in touch) Yrs Aye - Chairman

Talking about "entering Scottish waters" ... The Cov did some trials off the Western Isles after leaving Birkenhead and anchored in Scapa Flow overnight one time.

last call if anyone wants to share a twin with me in Coventry May.
Chris Howe MBE wrote on February 2, 2011 at 15:22
Shipmates FYI - I have been asked by the SAMA Vice Chairman if any ex HMS Coventry D118 are intending to turn out at this years SAMA AGM or the Sunday morning rememberance service in the Coventry Cathedral. Takes place on Sunday 26th March, the AGM is over that same weekend all in Coventry. Reason for approach is that our own skipper is reading the lesson that Sunday morning and SAMA feel it would be most fitting if 2 x ex Covs were to act as church bearers during the service. To that end, if anyone is going anyway or would like to take part and represent us, then please let me know ASAP. Yrs Aye - Chairman

Hi Stephen The ship went up to Rosyth after the Sunderland trip May/June 1981. We never went to Faslane while I was on board, (August 1980-May 82)

Hi Shipmates, first of all a Very Happy New Year to you all, I trust this first missive from your Chairman in 2011 finds you all well and thriving? Just to follow on with a few words that I hope will encourage more of you to commit to our 29th renunion this coming May. I did put out a plea last year asking for an indication of possible numbers attending, but sadly only a handful replied to my request, perhaps it was too early? Anyway, I am now starting to get down to some finer detail with the arrangements for May in Coventry and will eventually update the reunion tab adjacent with a bit more info if it needs it. Meanwhile please do what you can to free up your diaries and join your shipmates and spin a few more dits, we really do need your support as we get closer to our 30 years in 2012 next year. Enough said for now I guess, calm seas and a fair wind to you all. Yrs Aye Chris Howe MBE - Chairman
