In ocean wastes no poppies blow, No crosses stand in ordered row, Their young hearts sleep... beneath the wave... The spirited, the good, the brave, But stars a constant vigil keep, For them who lie beneath the deep. 'Tis true you cannot kneel in prayer On certain spot and think. "He's there." But you can to the ocean go... See whitecaps marching row on row; Know one for him will always ride... In and out... with every tide. And when your span of life is passed, He'll meet you at the "Captain's Mast." And they who mourn on distant shore For sailors who'll come home no more, Can dry their tears and pray for these Who rest beneath the heaving seas... For stars that shine and winds that blow And whitecaps marching row on row. And they can never lonely be For when they lived... they chose the sea.RIP Lads

I joined your happy band, along with a load off stores and munitions, from HMS Aurora just prior to sailing down south. I was on the Coventry long enough to realise what a fantastic ships company you had, particularly the stokers mess. I don't attend as many reunion events as I should but I have raised a glass tonight to those who will always remain in my thoughts. God Bless and you are not forgotten. Fluff and Toby I will be attending next year and look forward to seeing you both again. Calm Sea's Paddy Mac.

Remembering Stephen and his shipmates still on patrol...they shall not grow old as we that are left grow old, age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn... God bless you all and keep you safe..

Pausing at work to remember those that we left behind. They are not forgotten. My thoughts also rest with the families left without Dads,Brothers or Sons who still live the pain of the loss.

Morning Shipmates Just to say that at this time of year we once again turn our thoughts to the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month, I am sure you will all be joining me on Friday to pause in our busy daily lives and remember those that have given their lives for our today; especially our own Cov D118 shipmates nearly 30 years ago. Also, I will be marching with SAMA platoon at the Cenotaph in London on Sunday and I hope to see some of you there perhaps, the weather looks set fair unlike last year's deluge, so should be a fine day to once again 'simply remember'. Finally, please keep Eli (the loud one) informed of your intentions to join us on 25 May next year, we really do need to understand just how many will be attending and joining us with our own specific act of remembrance and re-union. Eli has kindly offered to help me with the local logistics at the GIs Ass Club and is doing a splendid job thus far. BZ. More later on 2012 meanwhile take care one and all, stay safe. Hi to all Coventry ex-members. I have spoken to Chris Howe regarding a venture I am currently undertaking. I am producing ships crests in oil/acrylic painted onto slate. It's an idea that developed from me making one of the Antrim to keep my Mrs happy as she didn't want my old wooden crest hanging on the wall. If you are interested please visit my site at http://www.dmoto.co.uk which explains everything, Thanks for your time Dean Withey (ex RN)

Shipmates et al FYI - As I have, some of you will also have recieved this week an information pack re the SAMA(82) AGM, Gala Dinner and the 30 year Remembrance weekend for May 18 - 21 2012. It is the weekend immediately prior to our own 30 year reunion of 25th May 2012 in Portsmouth. This is just to let you know, in case anyone is wondering, that as your current HMS Coventry D118 Association Chairman, myself and my wife Margaret will be attending the SAMA(82) weekend in its entirety. So, we will seek to attend at both the Gala Dinner (Tillington Hall Hotel) and the reception after the Memorial Dedication at the National Arboretum on the Sunday as well. However, it is fully understood by myself that May 2012 is clearly going to be a very busy period (and potentially expensive) for all of us either in 'thought' or indeed if you do elect to travel to take part in either weekend, but I do hope I will see as many of my old shipmates, NOK of KIA and associates at some time in this busy fortnight of May next year. Also, just to let you know I am in discussions with SAMA re us parading/forming up, under our own new Standard for the Sunday act of Remembrance, so it would be good to have at least some of you with me, otherwise my wife is on Standard bearer duties... If you have not recieved this information package then please look to the SAMA(82) website and/or contact Jane, the SAMA(82)Secretary, who will assist. Failing all of this, email me directly and I will do what I can to help. Finally, I will be providing the initial plan for our own reunion for next year in the coming months, I will place the details under the reunion tab adjacent when I have something firm to disseminate. Please keep monitoring this site. Meanwhile, take care and calm seas and also hope to see some of you at the Remembrance Sunday march in London in November. Yrs Aye Chris Howe MBE - Chairman
