Shipmates et al,
Only 4 weeks to go now to our 2013 gathering in Coventry.
To that end, just a final reminder for those that are intending to join us on Sat 25th May in Coventry and have yet to confirm that to me. Sorry to nag but I do need a good idea of numbers for the Remembrance service booklets and for catering at the reunion later in the evening.
All details are adjacent under the Reunion tab or please do not hesitate to call me or email me with any questions you may have.

I look forward to hearing from more of you in the coming weeks. Please spread the word to anyone you may be in touch with who perhaps does not check this site.
Take care

Thanks Bernard, several people have mentioned CHUMS will look into it. Medals sorted & received Blazer Badge from Chris yesterday.
try CHUMS its a mail order company near to me in Liverpool selling blazers for £25 recommended
Just clicked on the link on the Home page for Coventry merchandise. These items no longer seem to be available. Was contemplating the purchase of a tie and blazer badge. Any suggestions on a suitable company for this? Also recommendations for medal mounting/refurbs would be appreciated.

Anyone pitching up in London for the Mrs T gig next Wed, I'm working around the corner from St Pauls - Gresham St way, so will be around if anyone wants to meet up. Haven't received an invitation yet!

I have just watched the Falklands War on Sky, you all make me so proud.
I went to Florida with the wife and kids two years ago, in Disney there was a tribute to serving and fallen US Soldiers.
We need to do the same for our boys and girls, forget the PC Brigade
Thanks

ref:list of shipmates.
I raised this a while back for the same reasons as Steve mentions - having an easy way of finding ex shipmates contact details -a directory.
The one i recommended is on 'Broadswords' site - if you look on their website under 'Shipmates'- an alphabetical list appears that you add yourself to(which should overcome the data protection issue - you are giving permission to add your contact details)
Name,Rank/Rate,Nickname,From -To - which when you click on the name takes you to their contact details - what could be simpler? - it also allows everyone from build to sinking or even the Nelson part to register -regardless of whether they are a member or not - you might want to consider also our lost shipmates famalies being able to register?
The issue i saw was its construction / maintenance - which would be down to our brilliant webmaster?
regards and best wishes,
Mick

FYI - Steve Moffatt (below) raises a good point re contact issues; although there are data protection issues to observe here and therefore the suggestion that Steve has put forward will be discussed at the AGM in Coventry on 25th May.
Hopefully we can agree a mechanism that will allow shipmates to get 'requested' access to other members details.
Once again, please do not forget to let me know if indeed you are joining us this year in Coventry, your notification will be much appreciated.
See you soon, take care.

Are there any plans afoot to allow members of the Association to access a list of members or be able to contact other members by any other means than this guestbook?
Big thanks to Chris,Committee and Martin Kirkbride for the planning and execution of the tree dedication at the National Memorial Arboretum.I'm sorry i was not able to join you all,but thought of you and the famalies of our lost shipmates - i managed to catch the Midlands news and it was the top story - obviously its significance with the Falklands vote a couple of days away, anyway you did us all proud.
I hope to visit in the next month.
regards and best wishes to all Ex-Covs

On standby at Petersfield Services (as Ambulance crew) yesterday, when bumped into my old skipper off the Coventry. Talked about the film being produced based on his book. Filming is planned to take place in May on the Edinburgh.
Remember Frank Armes from our time at Phoenix and his ministry of funny walks dressed in fearnought suit a great guy and dearly missed always remembered

Just a short note to say that during a cold and windy day in the Midlands we finally carried out a short service of dedication for an HMS Coventry D118 Oak Tree and Plaque up at the NMA yesterday.
It was a very moving service performed by Martin Kirkbride and witnessed by shipmates but also significantly also families and friends of those we lost. I urge all off you to plan a visit to the NMA at some stage in the comings months, it is a worthwhile pilgrimage to make and an amaxing place to visit.
I would also like to thank those members of SAMA for their support who also took time out to witness our dedication ceremony.
Pictures will be placed on this website shortly but for now here are some links to the local media coverage we recieved from ITV and BBC.

You should still be able to google and find for yourself.
Once again can I also remind those intending to join us this year on 25th May in Coventry to either email me or text me of your intention and include who and how many.
See you soon I hope

Hello,
My father was one of the original crew of the Coventry I was at the launch back in 74 and presented lady L with the flowers. Do any of you remember Mike Smith LMEM? Sadly he passed away in 2011 but was always very proud to be one of the first. Incidentally his photo was on the front cover of the navy news special about the launch!
Be glad to hear from anyone who remembers him.
David

Shipmates, just a final note of reference for this Sunday's 10th March 2013 Dedication service at the NMA.
The precise location of our tree is now known. The HMS Coventry D118 Tree and Plaque have been planted/situated in the Naval Review - Area 19 - Tree 311.
I hope to see a few of you there at around midday on Sunday, fingers crossed for good weather.
If not attending then the tree/plaque will of course be there whenever you get a chance in the coming months and years or whenever you can attend.

Greetings. I had the honor of visiting the Coventry many times while assigned to NATO in 1981. I still have the Coventry's welcome aboard pamphlet that was given to me during one of my visits. I have many fond memories of her and her crew.
Thanks Joe, sorry you were not aware but I have been talking to Jane re our dedication ceremony and I will mention it in AOB at the SAMA AGM the day before which I shall also be attending in Derby.
Myself and Cov shipmmates and families will be mustering around 1200 and can easily dwell a pause or two and wait for the SAMA members to join us. We will likely start our short ceremony around 1230 in this case.
Many thanks Joe and see you on the Saturday in Derby.
