HMS Coventry Reunion 23rd – 25th May 2008

The 2008 HMS Coventry reunion will be going ahead on the weekend 23-25 May this year.

It will follow the format of previous years, as this has proved to be the most popular - An informal weekend of gatherings in which we remember our shipmates still on patrol and meet old friends. There will be gatherings in Portsmouth at the Home Club (now called the Maritime Club) in the bar, Friday 23rd from 19:30 onwards, Saturday 24th from a 12:00 DTS to an evening gathering beginning at 19:30/20:00.

On Sunday 25th, the twenty sixth anniversary of our ship sinking, we will gather for 11:00 at The Falklands Memorial in Old Portsmouth for a short, non religious remembrance service. There will be a wreath laid, a role of honour and two-minute silence. Afterwards, we retire to the Still and West for a coffee or a pint before departing for home.

Come to as many or as few meetings as suits you. Family and friends are welcome. There is no dress code.

If you have never been to one before, it would be great if you can come along.

Further details can be had by emailing Jim (Rocky) Hudson.

HMS Coventry 82 Assocation - YOUR VOTE INVITED

Doc Savage's draft constitution can be found here (Adobe Acrobat PDF file - you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader or Foxit Reader).

A lot of "ex Covs" have made known their support for, or reservations against, setting up a formal Coventry D118 Association. The decision in the end has to be made by us, and only us, so, the intention is that we have an Email vote.

Just email me here: jimahudson@tiscali.co.ukNOJUNKMAIL (removing the 'NOJUNKMAIL part) giving me your name and a clear statement saying whether you do or do not want an Association. Please head your email HMS COVENTRY. Do not forget to remove the "NOJUNKMAIL" at the end of the email address. I will close the poll at midnight on Sunday 18th May.

I will keep a tally of the voting and the emails and will post the results of the email vote on this website on Monday the 19th of May 2008. The results will also be available at the Home Club over our reunion weekend for those that wish to see it.

Making the decision in this way involves a majority of us, it will be quick, convenient and fair. If the vote were left to the Saturday of the get together it would not take into account the wishes of those that want their opinion heard but for a variety of reasons are unable to travel this year.

It is now over to you. Do we want a formal HMS Coventry D118 Association, with all that it will entail, or do we wish to remain as we are. Your vote will need to reach me by midnight of Sunday the 18th of May 2008 to let me know.

It is, it really is, a big decision for all of us, so please do respond one way or the other.

Jim "Rocky" Hudson
