I have just read an excerpt from the skippers book whereby he said, 'I was 2 decks down and could see no way out. The smoke was suffocating and the doors were blocked by fire.'
I was calm and prepared to die.
Wow! I was 1 deck down in the Ops Room and crapping clump blocks. I couldn't see bugger all but smoke and there was no way on earth that I was going to die.
Fortunately, I'm still here to say that my 'unreadiness to die' bore fruit. Thank goodness.
RN Captains must all go to the same FOST 'Death Wish' training school.

Just read a dit about the visit to Sunderland during our time with STANAVFORLANT. I remember it quite well, because I met a beautiful lass who I would have married, if I hadn't been married at the time. It was the only time during a 34½ year career that I would have went out of watch. Trouble was, I was too honest. Problem was, my missus wasn't. Life sucks and then you die.
Shit still trails after me to this day.

Ginge...Just to back up what Paul has said. I was laughing out loud at points reading that newsletter. Not good when you are sat at the PC at work with a half eaten ham sandwich in your starboard mit.

Thanks (to yourself and to Damien)for taking the time and effort to get it up on the site.

Joe O'Driscoll (God rest him)did all the cartoons I remember.

In a similar theme, does anyone remember the Ops Room dits book? There were some classics recorded in it I remember. If that had survived it would make great reading now.
